It’s official now!!! India is soon going to get its first F 1 track for the cost of 500 to 600 crores. Then India will become the fifth Asian country to host F 1 racing. Residents of Delhi would witness the high-adrenaline rush race, with the screech and crunch of tyres.
But I am not writing all this to inform you. This information has already been splashed by the news dailies of the city. The reason to raise the issue is to find out whether Delhi is ready for it? Can we emulate countries like China, Japan, Malaysia and Bahrain? Do we have that extra bit with us to give it away for the adrenaline rush of a handful of people? What percentage of India knows what F 1 is?
How long will India and the people at the helms of affair will keep playing copycats? Do any of the above-mentioned countries have Bundelkhand? Nithari? Vidarbha? Gujarat?
Why compare us with China and Japan, when we are unable to provide our people with the basic amenities. I am not going to any remote village. I take New Delhi—the capital of our nation—as the sample. To reach from one end of the city to the other end, we need to travel for hours in the mad traffic, amidst jams and yes you will witness more potholes than anything else on the roads of the capital city. Yet, they have planned for F 1 track.
The capital is unable to provide its residents with drinking water, electricity and fresh air, leave aside any other facility. Yet, the movers and shakers are planning a racing track, which will make our hearts pop out.
Monsoon is yet to arrive in the city, but the sewers are already overflowing and one fails to differentiate between roads and sewers in several areas of the city. Yet, we are planning for an F 1 track.
With the monsoon season nearing, and we being helpless, the government is now planning to import thousands of mosquito-eating frogs to prevent an outbreak of dengue fever! Rather than importing them, shouldn’t the authorities have done their homework in advance? In which age are we living? Yet, we are planning F 1 track.
I am not against any sort of sports or games. I am fully for it. But the question, which arises here, is that of feasibility.

its really a big dichotomy of our nation.we cant win a single medal in olompics but we are preparing ourselves for F1.Why this is? where are we going? It has put a big question mark on our vision.And yes i agree with Mani on such issue.
The country sucks! Ok...no raised eyebrows please. If a country cannot give you the basic quality of life-sadak, bijli, pani-the essentials...wht more can one expect.well...i am no idealist. in my view it is good to have some high profile game to be staged in India,
these type of events not only will boost our international image but also provide employment to many people.
And for the basic facilities thing,if we have money only we can change the infrastructural problems for that too

To be politically correct, i would have to agree with Arunoday's socialist views. Chandrababu Naidu thought otherwise and he paid the price in the elections. Well, I must remind you all that even before anyone had talked about F1 racing track in Delhi, Naidu had already declared the construction of a tarmac in Hyderabad. This was made an election issue and he lost the elections. Not that he should have ignored the poverty-struck farmers committing suicide, but the wealth always follow a trickle-down policy, more so in this age of globalisation.
F1 racing tack in Delhi would be a notable feat for the residents of the city. Hope the track is used only for racing and not for something as FUNtastically suggested by someone anonymously.
Good post Arunoday. I agree with what u said about india and its sitaution from roads to rains and the resulting potholes. But I would like to say that F1 is not same as trying for "a" olympic medal bcoz medals bring glory but F1 attracts visitors from around the globe and a lot of foreign currency. In the process the organizers make alot of money but so does the country and the citizens as well thru trickle down effect which is what would raise the people at the bottom of the pyramid and I think that is what we look forward to and expect the government to do. The Adam smith principle would work on F1 as well.

You are quite right in your approach. But do you see the trickle down theory existing in India? My dear, if it would have existed here, then the several plans and schemes of our respective governments would have not gone to dogs.
I believe that this, F1, will benefit a handful of people who run the market and who call the shots. It will hardly matter to the poor labourers who will work to get the track in place. What say?
Well said Arun, Its really high time that we Indians fight for our basic needs. Economically India is growing stronger, but not strong enough to beat the countries from west. We are paying tax on what we earn as well as what we purchase. People are paying tax of 3 months of their salary per annum, but what do they get back......corruption.....nasty politics. If India goes ahead like this we will be nothing but puppets, who will do nothing but copy as you mentioned in your doc....India is great....Fight back...

Before anything else, India needs a stable govt who has a vision. Some of our politicians may be honest and good but they are spending their time and energy in protecting their "chair" where is the time to think of vision for the country???
What we need is a ruling party like China for atleast 20-30 years to make things better, livable, to cut down the prevalant corruption in the country and put it on the path to progress where there is no looking back !!
forget about the providing F1 track we don't have the proper roads to walk on . my heart really bleeds when i look at the condition of cities roads . when ever i have to travel 40 km at a stretch , i have to think twice , but wonders me nobody really bothers over the plight of our roads , i don't when we will rise above all our day to day issues and constructively do something for the infrastructure
